Golden Gate

'Golden Gate', was in the 'Tri-Nations' exhibition: My favourite Place (Vrystaat!!) and travelled to Nieu Zealand and Australia in 2008. The Freestate in the centre of South Africa will always have a very special place in my heart because as was born in Bloemfontein and also studied there. Golden Gate is a National Park is in the North East near Bethlehem, on the foothills of the Maluti Mountains. The sunlight reflecting on the beautiful sandstone cliffs of the 'Brandwag' rock, keeping vigil over the resting camp, lead to the name.  The frame was designed from photographs I took in the nearby caves and ravines while hiking.

Forest in Ireland

This was inspired by my own photograph of trees in St Anne's garden, Dublin on my first visit to Ireland in 2008. The inspirational Japanese quilter, Noriko Endo gave a workshop: Confetti Landscapes at the South African quilt Festival in Alberton and I was in seventh heaven: I could use the smallest leftover scraps of fabric in my stash to paint with, the way the Impressionist Master's like Monet, used to do. I just love this technique.
